Communities That Care (CTC)

The residents of Fountain Valley are taking important steps to address youth substance use and abuse by implementing Communities That Care (CTC), a prevention system that has been proven to reduce alcohol and tobacco use, crime and violence among youth. The Fountain Valley is part of a statewide CTC effort that seeks to promote healthy youth development, improve outcomes, and reduce problem behaviors among youth through achieving the following objectives:

  • Reduce risk or increase protective factors commonly associated with underage use or abuse of substances.
  • Delay initiation and reduce current use of marijuana, alcohol, and opioids among middle and/or high school students.

Our Mission

To prevent youth substance use in the Fountain Valley by providing resources, education and opportunities.

Our Vision

To have a safe, inclusive and connected community for youth and families in the Fountain Valley.

Fountain Valley is a collaborative community that prepares youth through opportunities in order to empower, promote resiliency, and strengthen family and community connectedness.

With the help of a dedicated Communities that Care (CTC) staff, community leaders established the Fountain CTC Key Leader Board. The Key Leader Board is committed to supporting healthy youth development in Fountain, promoting the CTC process, and securing resources for implementing the community’s chosen strategies.

Organizations and individuals from across Fountain, Fort Carson and Widefield/Security have come together to establish the Fountain Valley CTC Community Board*. The Community Board leads and participates in decision-making, promoting the CTC process by informing others about this evidenced-based work, and ensuring the Community Action Plan is carried out.

*The Community Board currently includes citizens, parents and youth, as well as representatives from Army Community Services, Big Brothers Big Sisters, CASA of the Pikes Peak Region, City of Fountain, Colorado Trust, CPCD… giving children a headstart, El Paso County Commissioners, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Fountain City Council, Fountain Fort Carson School District 8, Fountain Police, Fountain Valley YMCA, Fort Carson, Homefront Cares, Inside Out Youth Services, Joint Initiatives for Children and Families, KidPower, Peak View Behavioral Health, Pikes Peak Library District, Security Library, Widefield Parks and Rec and Widefield School District 3.
