National Public Health Week is an annual recognition of the work conducted by public health agencies across the country. In El Paso County, local municipalities and the El Paso County Board of Health have issued proclamations to recognize the work of public health staff to protect and promote community and individual health.

Recognizing National Public Health Week 2023
WHEREAS, the
theme for National Public Health Week (NPHW) 2023 focuses on the ways community
and culture shape our health, from the communities in which we are born to the
ones we build together; and
WHEREAS, a top priority of the Board of El Paso
County Commissioners is to promote opportunities for a safe, strong and healthy
community; and
WHEREAS, the mission of El Paso County Public Health is to promote and
protect the health of the public and environmental quality across El Paso
County through people, prevention and partnerships; and
WHEREAS, the
vision of El Paso County Public Health is for all El Paso County residents to
live in thriving communities where every person has the opportunity to achieve
optimal health; and
WHEREAS, health is an individual and community
responsibility that includes a wide range of factors that impact both physical
and mental health, including healthy eating, physical activity, stress
management, mental health, and avoiding substance abuse; and
WHEREAS, El Paso County Public Health works with
cross-sector partners to identify and implement strategies to support
individual and community health; and
WHEREAS, public health agencies have a
responsibility to assess data and provide objective information and resources to
support individuals in making the most informed choices for their unique health
needs; and
WHEREAS, we thank El Paso County Public Health staff for their hard work
and dedication to keep our communities healthy and safe.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Board of County Commissioners of El Paso County, Colorado,
proclaims April 3-9, 2023, “National Public Health Week in El Paso County,
Colorado”.

A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 3RD TO APRIL 9TH AS NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK
WHEREAS, the week of April 3rd–9th, 2023, is National Public Health Week; and
WHEREAS, the theme for National Public Health Week 2023 is “Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health,” which focuses on the ways community and culture shape our health, from the communities in which we are born to the ones we build together; and
WHEREAS, where residents live, work, learn, play, and worship impacts community and individual health; and
WHEREAS, the mission of El Paso County Public Health is to promote and protect public health and environmental quality across El Paso County through people, prevention and partnerships; and
WHEREAS, the vision of El Paso County Public Health is for all El Paso County residents to live in thriving communities where every person has the opportunity to achieve optimal health; and
WHEREAS, health is an individual and community responsibility that includes a wide range of factors that impact both physical and mental health, including healthy eating, physical activity, access to care, stress management, mental health, and substance use; and
WHEREAS, public health agencies have a responsibility to assess data and provide objective information and resources to support individuals in making the most informed choices for their unique health needs; and
WHEREAS, El Paso County Public Health continues to meet the needs of the community by forging innovative cross-sector partnerships and strategies to support individual and community health and improve health outcomes; and
WHEREAS, El Paso County Public Health works to reduce barriers and increase easy access to resources, developing innovative service delivery models to meet people where they are.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLORADO SPRINGS:
Section 1. April 3rd to April 9th is recognized as National Public Health Week and it is more important than ever to celebrate public health, support and advance the mission of public health, and continue to acknowledge and appreciate El Paso County Public Health staff for their work and dedication to keep our communities healthy.
