August 19, 2024
The month of August is National Immunization Awareness Month, and it’s a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages.
During the last few years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) identified some challenges individuals and families are having keeping up with routine vaccines—mostly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaccines are known to be safe and effective at preventing serious diseases. During National Immunization Awareness Month, health agencies, care professionals and families work together to highlight how immunizations help protect community from preventable diseases. It’s a good time to think about what immunizations are recommended for you and your children.
It is important to remember immunizations from childhood can wear off over time, so some adults may also be at risk for vaccine-preventable disease due to age, job, lifestyle, travel, or health conditions. If you have questions about immunizations and how they may impact you or your family, talk with your health care provider or contact the Immunization Clinic at El Paso County Public Health to see which vaccines might be recommended for your age, health conditions, job, or lifestyle.
